Requirements for a safe level 4 work environment

BUSINESSES MUST ENSURE THAT -

  • all work spaces including offices, desks and all handling surfaces must be cleaned and sterilised on a daily basis.
  • all employees are reminded to disinfect their desks, computers and / or laptops on a daily basis.
  • they educate their workforce and communicate regularly about the measures taken to ensure the safety of all workforces, including social distancing of 1 m and good hygienic practices.
  • there are proper sanitizing agents in all restrooms including hand soap and disposable hand towels.
  • restrooms are sanitized at regular intervals throughout a day.
  • any employee that shows any sign of illness are requested not to return to the workplace.
  • not more than one-third of the employer’s workforce is present at the workplace at any given time.
  • an employees temperature should be taken on a regular basis by the employer. If an employee has a temperature above 37.5®C the employee must be requested to leave the workplace.
  • group meetings and events are refrained from in order to ensure the safety of employees.
  • employees are reminded and encouraged to practice non-contact measures of greeting.

 

CLIENTS AND / OR CUSTOMERS ENTERING THE BUSINESS SHOULD TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Hand sanitizer with an alcohol level above 65 % must be used for all persons entering the workplace.
  • Businesses must take the temperature of all persons entering the business and people with a temperature above 37.5®C may not enter the building.
  • Businesses should encourage employees to practise non-contact measures of greeting when greeting the public.
  • Ensure that no more than 10 persons in a small business and no more than 50 persons in retail store should be permitted at a time.
  • Access control may be done by way of a ticket system.

 

MASKS

  • Masks must be worn at all times when entering and exiting the premises.
  • When working with the public or in an essential group staff meeting, the wearing of a cloth mask is mandatory.
  • Clients and staff who neglect to adhere to the mask policy may be prohibited from entering the workplace.

 

SYMPTOMS THAT SHOULD BE WELL KNOWN TO ALL:

  • A fever above 37.5®C
  • A consistent cough
  • Shortness of breath
  • If an Employee believes that they are exhibiting any of these symptoms as set out above they must contact their health care practitioner to enquire what there next steps should be.

 

GENERAL PRACTICES

  • Wash and sanitize hands at regular intervals.
  • Create a habit of not touching your face and or other surfaces and cover coughs and sneezes with a bent elbow.
  • Practice good hygiene at all times.
  • Informative signs must be made clearly visible in all workplace environments.
